Building Beauty from Broken.... Our Story
For as long as she could remember, she'd wanted to be a wife and a mother. After losing her husband to cancer at a very young age, she couldn't understand why God had chosen not to honor her desire. She and her husband had been faithful; steadfast in their belief that he would be healed. This woman didn't have a doubt in her mind that the two of them would live out the rest of their lives together, telling the story of how God had healed her husband's cancer and how He'd blessed them with an incredible family and fulfilling life. What a testimony they could give. What a legacy they would leave. But this wasn't going to be their story, only a chapter in hers.
Around the same time, and hundreds of miles away, another heart was breaking. A grown son had just lost his mother to the disease of addiction. This boy had grown up never experiencing the kind of love and protection that a family should provide. His life had been spent in and out of homeless shelters, motels, and temporary housing; in the company of strangers, drug dealers, and abusers. He and his three siblings were often in the custody of child protective services until they were permanently taken away and placed in separate homes. This boy had grown up longing to be part of a stable family; praying to experience the kind of love that's shared between a parent and a child. But that wasn't going to be their story, only a chapter in his.
God chose not to heal that woman's husband in the way she'd prayed for, and He chose not to give that young boy the childhood family he'd longed for. Through two seemingly unanswered prayers, God was in the midst of writing an epic love story. These two broken hearts were brought together in perfect timing. The chapters that had been written in each of their lives now intertwined to create a story of hope, healing and redemptive love. One that only God could author.
